Check My Eligibility →The Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) offers Westminster homeowners cash contributions toward replacing fossil fuel boilers with low-carbon heating. From July 2026 to March 2027, you can claim £7,500 for air source or ground source heat pumps, or £9,000 if you're switching from an oil or LPG boiler. These grants significantly reduce the upfront cost of greener heating.
Opennest connects you with MCS-certified installers across Westminster who are registered to deliver BUS grants. We handle the eligibility check and installer matching—you focus on choosing the right heating solution for your home.
Most owner-occupied or privately rented residential properties in England can apply. Your home must have a working heating system to replace. Social housing, commercial buildings, and new builds are not eligible.
Air source heat pumps and ground source heat pumps both qualify for £7,500 (July 2026–March 2027). If you're replacing an oil or LPG boiler, the contribution is £9,000.
You'll usually pay your installer's full quote upfront or as agreed with them. The BUS grant is then paid directly to the installer, who deducts it from your invoice. Check the payment terms with your chosen engineer.
Once your installer submits the application, processing typically takes 4–8 weeks. Your installer can advise on timelines and may schedule work after approval is confirmed.
If your property doesn't meet the scheme criteria, your installer will inform you at the quote stage. You can still proceed with the installation at the full cost, or explore other retrofit funding options.
